Te Matarau is a limited liability Company with Charitable status. Te Matarau Ltd, through its associated shareholders represents fifty-six Mäori Health Provider Organisations.
The Te Matarau affiliated MDOs and their associated provider networks have developed into a multi-million dollar collective, providing a wide range of services.
All affiliated MDOs have developed a range of informal and formal relationships with at least thirty-three Iwi from both the North and South Islands.
The collective of MDOs have established formal contractual and business relationships directly with the key government agencies including Ministry of Health, Distinct Health Boards Directorates. Many of the MDO's have also contracted services with MSD, ACC along with research partnerships with major universities.
Three of the MDOs are Primary Health Organisations (PHO’s) in their own right and all other MDOs have an association or working relationship with PHO’s.
Te Matarau has been and continues to be a key driver for Maori Health and Social Service Provider members as well as Maori economic development.
The task for Te Matarau Ltd is to accelerate Mäori Development and independence by harnessing the capability and capacity of the individual MDO’s and MDO collectives so that they are well positioned to make an effective and sustainable contribution to the wider determinants of Health for Mäori.
